1. Moisturizing Hair Mask
Struggling with dry hair in the summer heat? Give your locks the TLC they’re looking for with a hyper-moisturizing mask.
Ingredients: Egg Yolk + Coconut Oil + Honey
What to do: Mix one egg with a few tablespoons of virgin, unrefined coconut oil and raw honey, depending on how much hair you have. Apply for at least 20 minutes. If you need a deep treatment, sleep with the mask and then wash out in the morning.
2. Dandruff Rinse
If a dry, itchy scalp is where your struggle is at, we feel your pain. Few things are worse than dandruff. Beyond the major distraction of picking at your head at work (…ew, but don’t we all?) is the constant snowfall on your shoulders and the general discomfort of a dandruff issue. Take it down with this major natural ingredient.
Ingredients: Tea Tree Oil + Water
What to Do: Get a spray bottle and mix 4-6 drop of tea tree oil with water. After you wash your hair, apply the tea tree oil spray directly to your scalp. If your skin isn’t sensitive, apply a few drops of tea tree oil to your palms and rub on your scalp without diluting for extra impact. Don’t use more than once or twice a week.
3. Thickening Treatment
If you’re panicking about thinning hair, don’t worry! Stress won’t help, anyway. What will help is a quick and easy treatment, thanks to everyone’s favorite healthy snack.
Ingredients: Banana
What to Do: Mash a banana or two depending on your hair length and apply, paying special attention to your scalp. Leave on for 10 minutes and wash out using cold water. Use 2-3 times a week.
4. Bentonite Clay Clarifying Mask
We loved this recipe from Natural Hair Rules. If you have natural hair, or are looking for something that won’t strip your hair of its natural oils, this one is for you.
Ingredients: Bentonite Clay + Aloe Vera + Apple Cider Vinegar
What to Do: Mix all three ingredients in a bowl, and apply to your hair in sections. Leave for 30 minutes, and wash out with warm water.
5. Natural Hair Lightener
Shooting for lighter tresses? Do so naturally, and without drying out your hair permanently, by giving this simple ingredient a try.
Ingredients: Lemon Juice
What to Do: In a spray bottle, combine lemon juice and water, about 50/50. Shake the bottle well and spritz your hair before you head out for a day in the sun. Be sure to keep your hair moisturized, as the acidity of lemon can be tough on locks.
6. Dry Shampoo
Every BAUCE woman knows what it’s like to be running totally and completely late. We can plan all we want, but the day will come where the alarm didn’t go off, setting you back a shower. But we’ve got you covered. This DIY recipe from Body Unburdened is a must to keep in your back pocket!
Ingredients: Cornstarch + Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
What to Do: Lighter locks don’t need the cocoa powder, but anyone who isn’t a blonde will want to combine it with the cornstarch to ensure you don’t show up to the office with yellow sprinkled throughout your hair! Lightly dust your scalp with the mixture, and blend with a brush or makeup brush.
7. Deep Conditioning Treatment
When you’ve just gone overboard with the dyeing and bleaching, it’s time to add a deep conditioning treatment to your regimen. This combination of oils will take your hair back to a healthier, happier stage, and will make you happier as a result!
Ingredients: Macadamia Nut Oil + Coconut Oil + Olive Oil + Rosemary Oil
What to Do: Go all out by combining these four oils in a bowl and applying to sectioned hair all the way from your scalp to your tips, making sure to get deep into your roots. Massage hair to ensure that the oils really penetrate each strand. Leave on for at least 15 minutes, and be sure to shampoo or co-wash afterward.
