Moving and Shaking: The Benefits of Zumba

What many thought would be just another fitness trend has now become one of the most preferred style of exercise among women in the U.S. today. Zumba blends an infusion of Latin dance and Bollywood moves to shake away those extra pounds and teach you how to have fun doing it. So if you get easily bored with the routine of going to the gym and running on the treadmill and you’re looking to spice up your workout, zumba might be for you. Not only is zumba fun and definitely takes your mind off the workout burn, it’s also beneficial to the body in positive ways.

Zumba tones the body without having to lift a weight. As you are dancing and shaking, every muscle in your body is being put to use. Swaying of the hips works to tone your abdominal and core center of your body. Dropping it low tones the muscles in your leg, but you’ll never know because you’ll be having too much fun dancing to the great sounds of Latin fusion.

Had a rough day at work? Feel like blowing some steam? Well round up the girls and head out for a night of zumba. Zumba has been proven to be an effective stress reliever and endorphin-releaser. So whether you’re mad at your boo or your demanding boss, zumba will get rid of that kink in your neck.

Are you a serial calorie counter that has gone over your calorie intake for the day? Fear not! Zumba is the quickest way to burn those extra calories and shed unwanted weight. On average, zumba participants burn between 800-1000 calories in one session which last about an hour. The amount of time it takes to burn that many calories on a typical treadmill will take about 3 hours.

Zumba is a great confidence booster. The class is crafted to cater to all body types, all fitness levels, and even all ages. Going to a zumba session, you will see all different types of women and men coming together to lose weight and tone muscles the “fun way.” So don’t worry about the next person judging you or feeling self-conscious about your body. Have fun!

Because Zumba workouts are considered high intensity, it helps to increase lung capacity as well as stamina and endurance, so you’re lungs will definitely be pumping once that hour is up. Once you’re body becomes accustomed to zumba, you’ll notice that when you try other workouts such as jogging, swimming, or biking you last longer because your endurance level has increased.

Not only does zumba have health benefits, but it’s a quick and fun way to lose weight not to mention you’ll actually look forward to going back to the gym for another session.
