These Are The Best Treatments For Tinnitus

If you have tinnitus, you are not alone. Many millions of people suffer from this debilitating condition and while there are no drugs that can take your tinnitus away, there are other options open to sufferers that can help relieve symptoms.  So, what are the best methods of tinnitus treatment?

Before we start though, let’s look at what you should not do: You shouldn’t try to find a quiet place away from any noise. The less noise there is, the more you will be able to ‘hear’ your tinnitus. Additionally, try to avoid focusing on your tinnitus. The more you think about it, the worse you will feel. So, what about what you can do?

    Join a Yoga Class

One hobby you should definitely consider is yoga. Not only is it great for your body but it will also teach you the art of meditation, which has been proven to be an effective form of tinnitus treatment. However, whilst yoga at home has its benefits, the best way to make the most of these is through joining a local yoga class, preferably one with lots of people in it, and here’s why. Many other people who are seeking tinnitus treatments are also trying yoga. This means that you may find that there are fellow sufferers in your own class. If that is the case, you can start a small support group. Support groups are great because you have the chance to talk to fellow sufferers which means you won’t feel so alone and you can share tips on alleviating symptoms.

    Release Tension Daily

Another form of exercise that has been proven to work is progressive muscle relaxation, which also happens to be closely related to yoga. However, while doing yoga would be better in a group setting for the reasons already mentioned above, progressive muscle relaxation can be done at home. One point to note is that you may want to have some suitable music playing to stop you from focusing on your tinnitus.

Progressive muscle relaxation is all about controlling your breathing and working on your muscles to ease tension. Start by crunching up and relaxing your toes. Now, work up your body, concentrating on your ankles, calves, thighs and so on, tightening and relaxing your muscles as you go. Set a specific place and time to do this each day. A place with no interruptions where you can listen to music for about 30 minutes each time would be perfect.

    Change Your Diet

Because there are so many causes of tinnitus, there are just as many treatments, with some working better for some people than for others. Although not conclusive, there seems to be a fair amount of evidence to suggest that diet may play a part. However, immediately changing your diet will not really help.

The best approach is to think about the effect certain foods have on your tinnitus. You may find that foods that are high in stimulants make things worse. However, you may also find that one particular food specific to you negatively affects your tinnitus and to work this out, you may need to try an elimination diet.

    Wrapping It All Up

The above are just a few suggestions; there may be others you discover that work for you. If you have not found any relief from alternative methods, speak to a hearing specialist who may be able to advise you on the latest treatments available.
