I can get down with my sister Hillary Rodham Clinton. Because she knows the power that exists in the double X chromosomes and how much more of it is is needed in our male-dominated spaces.
The Women in Public Service Institute held its first ever opening ceremonies yesterday at Wellesley College where Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton strongly urged female activities around the globe to step up and pursue leadership roles. The institute is a collaboration with the US Department of State and other women’s colleges, such as Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, and Smith, to provide 50 female activists from 21 different countries with two-week intensive courses on political leadership.
During the conference, Clinton said:
“If you do not participate, others will hijack your revolution. They will very often begin, from the first day, to undermine the hopes and aspirations that you were protesting for. You are among the young people transforming a region and inspiring the world. We are looking to you for your leadership to turn the promise of change into real and lasting progress.”
Secretary Clinton also added that we must “keep pushing at that glass ceiling.”
It’s words like that that give me hope for a brighter future. Now which one of my badass sisters are going to answer the call?
It may be hard to think that in today’s time women still are second strung when it comes to most fields, but it’s true. We are just now experiencing a slow climb of women’s in tech and many political offices are still outweighed by men. What’s even more astounding is that the government is also working to support women. The institute is part of a global project to increase world leadership from 17.5 percent women to 50 percent by 2050.
