This past Sunday night, the the 69th Annual Golden Globes Awards were in Beverly Hills, California. With the storm of great movies in 2011, the Black actors had quite a few roles in the prior year’s phenomenal films.
That night, Black stars simply shined with honors. Octavia Spencer took home Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for heart-touching film The Help. In The Help, Octavia Spencer played the witty, outspoken Milly Jackson who just does not settle for nonsense. Idris Elba received an Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for TV film for Luther. Elba once again did not disappoint playing John Luther, a sharp Detective Chief Inspector.
Nevertheless, the legend, Morgan Freeman who continued to amaze audiences with his performances throughout the years received the well-deserved Cecil B. DeMille award. Thanking Sidney Poitier, who previously received this award, Freeman vowed to rename the award in his name in his home. Kudos! When we do it–we do it big!
