Allegations against Leila Lopes, the newly crowned Miss Universe have arisen. Claims have surfaced that Lopes, who entered the global beauty pageant as Miss Angola, falsified documents in order to enter and win the qualifying contest in England.
The Infobae, an Argentinian newspaper, published the report Thursday with claims that Lopes was unfairly allowed to participate in the Miss Angola competition for Angolan citizens living in the United Kingdom. A man named Charles Mukano helped falsify documents identifying Lopes as an ex-pat and student of business management at a British school in order for her to enter into the contest and win. Some Angolan media reports claim that Mukano even bribed judges in England to vote for Lopes.
The Miss Universe pageant will officially comment on the matter soon.
After winning the crown, Miss France and Miss Phillipines expressed how Lopes did not deserve to win.
