Kelly Rowland not only belts out her vocals but has a heart for the community too. She recently told Self.com about how elated she was to become the spokesperson for BE READY, a new initiative with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
“Last year, over a million students failed to graduate with a high school diploma,” Rowland said. “The BE READY initiative is all about really getting the kids excited about going back to school and really going out this year and being completely headstrong about getting their high school diploma.”
She recently attended the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Back to School season kick-off in New York on August 4.
Doing philanthropic work has a calming affect for Rowland, who tends to live a hectic life.
“When I’m actually out doing philanthropic work right now, I feel like I’m just kind of healing myself,” The 30 year-old singer said. “I feel like I’m kind of nurturing a part of me as a kid. It felt there was a void, like there was something missing. And when I’m actually out doing philanthropic work right now, I feel like I’m just kind of healing myself of all of those things as well.”
