Worshipers at the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Lucas, Texas can drive in to see their pastor outside and hear a church service. Yep, it’s a real drive-in church.
“Sanctuary Under the Sky”, utilizes Love Joy high school parking lot and is the third outdoor church launched by Pastor David Ray, according to WFAA.
Ray told WFAA that he’s using the method as outreach to increase church attendance and that he believes Jesus would approve of his idea.
“I think he would like it. His stuff was outdoors,” Ray said. “A lot of trouble he had was indoors.”
The innovative idea for Sunday worship comes shortly after statistics revealed that fewer people were going to church.
According to a recent study by the Ventura, California-based Barna Group, church attendance across America has declined within the past 20 years, dropping from 49 percent in 1991 to 40 percent in 2011.
Worship with Sanctuary Under the Sky starts Sunday service in Lucas at 9 AM, the church web site claims. A traditional service follows at 10:30 AM.
